PRIME MINISTER NABBANJA TOURS KCRRP SITES

Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja, accompanied by a delegation of ministers and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials, toured several roads under the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP) on December 18.

The inspection covered Kyebando Road, Sentema Road, Mutesa I Road, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, Eighth Street, and the Industrial Area roads among others.

The Prime Minister was joined by Minister for Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamala, Minister for Security Jim Muhwezi, State Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Kabuye Kyofatogabye, State Minister for ICT Godfrey Kabyanga, and KCCA Acting Executive Director Frank Rusa.

The inspection was a follow-up on the progress of addressing bottle necks identified during her previous inspection.

The KCRRP, a flagship initiative of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto, aims to construct at least 70 kilometers of roads across the city. The project also includes the signalization of 22 junctions and the integration of 123 kilometers of non-motorized transport facilities, such as pedestrian walkways and bicycle lanes.

Speaking during the tour, Prime Minister Nabbanja lauded the progress of the project, describing it as evidence of the NRM government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises.

“We are proud of this project. It shows that the NRM government is performing and delivering on its pledges to the people. I urge contractors to work day and night to avoid delays,” she said.

Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala highlighted the significance of the newly constructed Mutesa I Road, which connects Rubaga to Nakulabye, noting that it had never been paved before.

“There is a lot of progress. This road will greatly improve access and mobility in these areas,” Wamala said.

Minister for Security Jim Muhwezi emphasized the importance of an improved road network in enhancing security. He also cautioned road users, particularly boda boda riders, to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules.

State Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Kabuye Kyofatogabye expressed gratitude for the progress made on Sentema Road and called for the installation of streetlights and walkways.

 “We are very grateful. This project is one of the key promises of the NRM Manifesto, and we pledge to deliver even better infrastructure,” Kyofatogabe said.

Minister of State for National Guidance Godfrey Kabyanga noted that the relocation of utility lines, such as internet cables, was being handled effectively to avoid disruptions.

KCCA Executive Director Frank Rusa thanked the Prime Minister for taking time to inspect the project and reaffirmed KCCA’s commitment to fast-tracking its implementation.

“We are working diligently to ensure the timely delivery of these roads to transform Kampala’s infrastructure and mobility,” Rusa said.

The KCRRP is part of the city’s broader strategy to modernize its infrastructure, with 40 road projects currently underway.
