KCCA SWEARS IN NEW PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE MEMBERS
PUBLISHED — 28th, April 2023The Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) has sworn in a new Public Accounts Committee (PAC) consisting of five members.
The committee was appointed by the Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, and is mandated by Section 58 (9) of the KCCA Act to examine the reports of the Auditor General, Chief Internal Auditor, and any reports of commissions of inquiry.
It is also empowered to require the attendance of any councillor or officer to explain matters arising from the reports.
The new members of the committee are;
1. Mariam Namwanje
2. Bob Kabaziguruka
3. Michael Tugyetwena
4. Abdul Ntege Nasser
5. Sarah Sanyu.
They were on Thursday sworn in by Jane Tibagonzeka, the Chief Magistrate at City Hall Court.
According to the KCCA Act, the committee members will hold office for five years, but they can be re-appointed for an extra 5-year term.
During the ceremony, the Kampala Lord Mayor asked the members of PAC to live up to the spirit of competent and high-level professionalism.
He expressed his high expectations of the committee and urged them not to disappoint KCCA. Lukwago asked the PAC members to make implementable recommendations aimed at improving the works of the authority.
Dorothy Kisaka the KCCA Executive Director hopes that the committee will execute its mandate with integrity and professionalism to ensure value for money in all the projects undertaken by the authority.
Kisaka highlighted the authority's smart city agenda, which focuses on technology, infrastructure, and people's wellbeing. She emphasized that scrutiny is necessary to ensure quality work is done, especially when 60% of the KCCA budget goes to infrastructure.
The KCCA Speaker, Zahara Luyirika, promised to work with the committee as long as they stay within the law and deliver with integrity. She acknowledged the many tasks waiting for the committee and expressed the hope that they would do a great job to ensure a better city and quality services delivery.
The Chairperson of PAC, Kabaziguruka, promised to execute their mandate well with the support and cooperation of all stakeholders of the KCCA. He emphasized that the committee is part of the transformation team in accountability and improved service delivery, and they promised to deliver quality work.
