KCCA’S FRANK RUSA HONORED WITH ABETO AFRICA PEACE AWARD

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Director of Legal Affairs, Frank Rusa, has been honored with the prestigious 2025 ABETO (Always Be Tolerant Organization) Africa Peace Award.

This accolade recognizes leaders committed to peace and tolerance, highlighting Rusa’s contributions to fostering dialogue and sustainable development across Uganda.

Rusa joins a distinguished list of past recipients, including President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Nelson Mandela, and South Sudan’s Salva Kiir. His leadership and unwavering commitment to legal and democratic advocacy have earned him a place among these influential figures.

Between September 2024 and January 2025, Rusa served as KCCA’s Acting Executive Director, demonstrating steadfast leadership in the city’s administration. His extensive experience includes previous roles with the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) and the Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD), where he played a key role in bridging political divides, enhancing civic engagement, and unifying Uganda’s diverse political landscape.

“This morning, together with a number of distinguished leaders from different fields in Uganda, I was honored to be one of the recipients of the 2025 ABETO Peace Award! Most grateful to God and all of you good people who have supported me,” Rusa posted on his X (Twitter) account after receiving the award.

The award ceremony, held at Hotel Africana in Kampala, on Thursday March 27 was presided over by the Minister for Energy, Ruth Nankabirwa. Other distinguished awardees included the Inspector General of Government (IGG) Betty Kamya, National Forestry Authority (NFA) boss Stuart Maniraguha, Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Executive Director Dan Odongo, and Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) Director General Robert Mukiza.

The ABETO Africa Peace Award is dedicated to recognizing heads of state, government dignitaries, and leaders who have championed transformation and improved the quality of life in their respective nations. Founded in 1995, ABETO is a non-governmental organization committed to instilling values of peaceful co-existence, conflict resolution through dialogue, and promoting democracy and good governance.

ABETO Chairperson, Moses Musana, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to fostering peace across Africa. “Our goal is to get the people of Uganda, Africa, and the world to embrace a culture of peace, democracy, and good governance,” he said.

Frank Rusa’s recognition is a testament to his enduring efforts in legal advocacy, governance, and peacebuilding, cementing his legacy as a key player in Uganda’s democratic and administrative progress.
