The Mayor of Juba City, His Worship Michael Lado Thomas Allah-Jabu paid a courtesy visit to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to discuss various opportunities for cooperation between Juba and Kampala.

Allah-Jabu was accompanied by the Juba City Deputy Mayor in charge of Administration and Finance, Solomon Pitia Nyambor, and the Juba City Council Chief Executive Officer Alfatih Margani Agal.

On the said meeting, Allah-Jabu met with the Kampala City Lord Mayor His Worship Erias Lukwago, the KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, the KCCA Deputy ED David Luyimbazi and other technical staff.

The meeting took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere where Allah-Jabu exchanged views on his interest to pick lessons from Kampala.

Allah-Jabu who was appointed Mayor of Juba in November last year said they want to learn about the best practices in Kampala.

“How did you manage the Physical Planning Master Plan for the city? Because the roads here are better compared to ours. We want to learn how to manage our roads,” Allah-Jabu said.

He also expressed how they have a challenge of solid waste management and outdoor advertising management.

To Nyambor, they came to Kampala City because of the brotherhood between the two cities.

“We believe you have the experience and expertise in managing the city and you are better placed to guide us as a young city,” Nyambor said.

He said Juba is faced with a challenge of markets, poor revenue collection among others.

“We still go door to door collecting revenue and it is tiresome. We want to know how best you collect revenue,” Nyambor said.

The Kampala Lord Mayor expressed his gratitude to the Juba team for visiting Kampala and promised to offer support.

“Our technical team is going to help you and arrange presentations on issues you have raised,” Lukwago said.

The KCCA ED Kisaka welcomed the Juba delegation to City Hall and assured them of her support.

“You are welcome and it is a real joy to host you in Kampala City,” Kisaka said.

While addressing the meeting, Deputy ED Eng. Luyimbazi described the issue of neighboring cities twining and working together as key.

“We can tell you what to do to avoid some of the challenges we are facing especially with physical planning,” Luyimbazi said.

He explained that the money to develop a physical plan for the city is very little but the benefits are immense if it is followed to the dot.

“Juba is a young city which can avoid the challenges facing the other cities,” Luyimbazi said.

Juba is the Capital and largest city of South Sudan. It is situated on the White Nile and also serves as the capital of the Central Equatoria State. It is the world's newest capital city to be elevated as such in 2011, and has a population of about 700,000 people.
