KCCA FLAGS OFF TEAMS FOR NATIONAL MDDP AND BALL GAMES COMPETITIONS

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has flagged off its primary school teams set to represent the city in the 2025 National Music, Dance, Drama and Poetry (MDDP) festivals, as well as national ball games competitions.
The colourful event took place at the KCCA City Hall lower gardens on Thursday afternoon, bringing together learners, teachers, parents, and city leaders.
Clever’s Origin PS, Nakivubo PS and Buganda Road PS will represent KCCA in MDDP in Mbarara City while a select team will represent KCCA in the ball games to be held in Yumbe district.
Speaking at the event, KCCA Deputy Executive Director Benon Kigenyi hailed the pupils for their outstanding achievements, describing them as “ambassadors of Kampala” who carry the hopes and pride of the city.
“Congratulations to our remarkable children who have triumphed in their respective disciplines and are now representing Kampala on the national stage. Your commitment and resilience have brought pride not only to your schools but to the entire city,” Kigenyi said.
He commended schools that have consistently defended national titles in MDDP and secured trophies in netball and football, noting that such victories highlight the depth of talent nurtured in KCCA schools.
Kigenyi emphasized that education and sports are key drivers of social transformation. He said that beyond academics, KCCA, through its Directorate of Education and Social Services, is committed to providing holistic education by supporting co-curricular activities that build discipline, resilience, and life skills among learners.
This year’s MDDP festivals will run under the theme: “Safe Learning Environment for Social Transformation,” with sub-themes touching on birth registration, malaria prevention, sanitation and hygiene, digital transformation in education, and oral health.
Charles Maginot the Director Education and Social Services said the themes align with national campaigns that directly affect communities.
“Through MDDP, our schools are not only entertaining but also educating the nation on issues such as child safety, environmental conservation, hygiene, and health,” he added.
The Deputy ED also highlighted the importance of teamwork and sports in building collaboration, communication, and confidence among learners, skills he described as vital for success in life and the workplace.
As the teams prepare to travel to Yumbe and Mbarara for the national competitions, Maginot encouraged the pupils to uphold Kampala’s values, show discipline, and enjoy the opportunity to learn and make new friends.
He applauded teachers, trainers, and parents for their role in nurturing talent, despite the challenges faced by UPE schools.
“As you embark on this journey, remember that you are the future of Kampala. We believe in your determination and skill, and we pray that you will defend the championships in both MDDP and ball games,” Maginot concluded.
The teams will compete against schools from across the country in the coming weeks, with Kampala hoping to retain its national dominance in both artistic and sporting categories.
