Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Sharifah Buzeki, has emphasized the need to revamp and strengthen KCCA Football Club to reclaim its top spot in Ugandan football.

Buzeki made the remarks during her familiarization tour of the KCCA FC, on Friday where she was received by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Anisha Muhoozi.

During the visit, Buzeki was taken on a guided tour of the Philip Omondi Stadium, which is currently under construction. Once completed, the stadium is expected to accommodate at least 4,000 spectators, enhancing the club’s infrastructure and boosting the image of Kampala as a city that fosters sports development.

“I'll be attending Sunday's game, and we are coming to win,” Buzeki affirmed, expressing her confidence in the team's potential. She also urged the players to balance sports and education to ensure a seamless transition into other careers after their football journey.

Buzeki commended the club’s efforts in nurturing young talent and emphasized the importance of continued support for sports.

“Talent must be nurtured and given the necessary support to grow. I am amazed by what is happening here, and I am very encouraged. Developing talent ensures that young people are engaged in useful activities, and sports also promotes health and well-being,” Buzeki stated.

The Executive Director also met with the KCCA FC first-team players and management, celebrating the achievements of some players who have made it to the national team. She reiterated the authority’s commitment to ensuring the club’s academy remains a top priority to provide a steady supply of talented players.

Buzeki was accompanied by KCCA Deputy Executive Director, Benon Kigenyi, and other officials.

Eng. Godfrey Sserunjogi, the chairperson of KCCA FC, assured Buzeki that the club is determined to bounce back and win a trophy this season.

However, he highlighted the club’s financial struggles, and appealed for financial relief and sponsorships to stabilize the club’s operations.

The stadium construction is currently in its second phase, with an estimated total project cost of UGX 54 billion. So far, UGX 15 billion has been spent, leaving a funding gap of UGX 39 billion.

The remaining funds are needed to complete crucial components such as furnishing the stadium, installing changing rooms, seating arrangements, toilets, and dormitories.

Currently KCCA FC, is fifth on the Uganda Premier League standings.

With the necessary financial and infrastructural support, KCCA FC is poised to regain its dominance in Ugandan football and continue its legacy of excellence.
