In a bid to support urban planning, navigation, and service delivery, Geo Sign and Pack Worth Infrastructure Engineering Co. Ltd has donated 1,000 house number plates to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

The donation was handed over by Ronald Sserumaga, a representative of Pack Worth Infrastructure Engineering, to KCCA Deputy Executive Director Benon Kigenyi during a ceremony held on February 2.

Kigenyi expressed gratitude for the donation and highlighted the critical need for house number plates in Kampala, where only 12,555 out of 373,826 houses currently have them.

“We are grateful for this generous donation, which will significantly support our efforts to improve house numbering in Kampala,” Kigenyi said.

The ceremony also shed light on the challenges posed by the lack of house number plates in Kampala. House numbering is critical for effective service delivery, including emergency response, waste management, and revenue collection. They ease navigation and ease accessibility in the city.

“With only a small fraction of houses currently numbered, we face significant challenges in providing essential services to residents. This donation is a step in the right direction.” Kigenyi said.

Sserumaga highlighted the unique features of the number plates donated by Geo Sign and Pack Worth.

“Our number plates are designed with advanced features, including light reflection for better visibility at night and anti-theft devices to ensure durability and security. These features make them ideal for Kampala’s growing urban needs.” Sserumaga said.

The donated plates will be distributed free of charge to selected households across the city. However, residents are required to obtain a house number plate independently and can purchase one for UGX 50,000 from KCCA’s approved service providers. KCCA has also outlined specific design and appearance guidelines that all house owners must follow when acquiring a plate.

For one to know their house number they have to notify KCCA, who in turn connect the property owner to the approved service provider. City dwellers are encouraged to acquire house plates.
