KCCA SMART CITY HOLIDAY CAMP EMPOWERS STUDENTS FOR A BRIGHT FUTURE

PUBLISHED — 4th, December 2023

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), in collaboration with Kitebi Secondary School, has joined forces to launch the Smart City Ambassadors Holiday Camp, targeting teenagers aged 13-19 years old.

The residential training camp, which commenced on December 2nd, is scheduled to conclude on December 10th, 2023.

Dorothy Kisaka, the Executive Director of KCCA, inaugurated the event and addressed the participating teenagers.

She underscored the crucial role of the youth as Smart City ambassadors, urging them to embrace values that promote intelligent living and self-governance.

"The Smart City starts with you," emphasized Kisaka, urging the young participants to champion cleanliness, discourage littering, and advocate for environmental sustainability within the city.

Facilitated by skilled instructors, the camp aims to empower attendees with qualities such as boldness, assertiveness, courage, and effective decision-making skills.

Kisaka's vision for the camp aligns with the Kampala Smart City’s three pillars of Technology, Infrastructure, and People Wellbeing (TIP).

The workshop is strategically divided into two phases, with the first segment focusing on girls from December 4th to December 6th, followed by the second phase dedicated to boys from December 6th to December 10th.

Under the theme, "The Role of Education as a Vehicle to Mindset Change for Political, Social, and Economic Transformation," the camp brings together 350 students from 152 secondary and primary schools.

Haji Kamulegeya Muhammed, the Headmaster of Kitebi SSS, is playing a crucial role as the host headmaster for the camp, ensuring the smooth execution of the comprehensive program.

Activities range from expressive arts such as public speaking, dancing, drama, singing, reciting Quran, poems, essay writing, debate, and modeling. The workshop also delves into critical issues such as mental health awareness, drug abuse, and climate change.

While the primary objective is to shift the mindset of the participants, the camp also seeks to instill values that foster smart living and governance.

The ultimate goal is to equip students not only to navigate the challenges of the modern world but also to contribute actively to building a smarter and more resilient society.
