NEW KAWEMPE DIVISION ADMINISTRATION BUILDING COMMISSIONED
PUBLISHED — 7th, January 2025The Minister of State for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hon. Kabuye Kyofatogabye, has officially commissioned the Kawempe Division Administration Building.
Constructed with funding from the government, the building addresses longstanding challenges of inadequate space and aims to enhance service delivery in the division.
Speaking during the ceremony, on January 7, Kyofatogabye expressed gratitude to the government for funding the project and commended the people of Kawempe for embracing development initiatives.
"We must also focus on fighting poverty at the household level and ensuring proper waste management for a cleaner city," Kyofatogabye said.
He highlighted the significance of the partnership between the Buganda Kingdom and the government, which he described as pivotal in fostering development.
Buganda Kingdom is credited for providing the land where the building has been constructed.
The Acting Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Frank Rusa, emphasized the importance of inclusivity in urban development and commended all that supported him as his time as acting ED ends.
"Every building in Kampala should have access for persons with disabilities. I also want to extend my gratitude to the KCCA staff who have supported me during my 111 days in acting capacity, enabling us to achieve this milestone," Rusa said.
Representing the Buganda Kingdom, Deputy Kaggo Phiona Nakalinda noted that the building was constructed on kingdom land, symbolizing the strong working relationship between the two entities.
"We commend the government for providing the funds to make this project a reality," she remarked.
Kawempe Division Mayor Emmanuel Sserunjogi lauded Ugandan taxpayers, whose contributions made the construction possible.
"This is a testament to the value of paying taxes, as the funds have been used to transform our communities," he said.
Grace Akullo, KCCA’s Director of Administration and Human Resources, emphasized the positive impact of the new building on staff productivity.
"When staff have adequate working space, they are empowered to deliver more effectively. This facility will undoubtedly enhance service delivery in Kawempe Division," Akullo said.
The building now houses 102 staff members, providing a conducive working environment that is expected to improve efficiency and service delivery for the residents of Kawempe.
