KCCA TEAM OFF TO KENYA FOR EAST AFRICAN LOCAL AUTHORITIES GAMES
PUBLISHED — 7th, March 2022The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) team has left for Kenya to partake in the East Africa Local Authorities Cultural Association (EALASCA) Games.
The games that will be held in Kenya’s western town of Eldoret, will run from March 7 to March 11, 2022.
Eldoret, which is about 300 kilometers from Kampala, is a main town in the Rift Valley region of Kenya and serves as the capital of Uasin Gishu County.
The KCCA team which comprises of city councilors and technical staff was flagged off on Monday morning by the Ministry of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs’, Under Secretary Monica Ejua Edemachu.
“Go and depict Uganda. You are not going as a KCCA team only but also as Uganda. When you excel all of us feel proud as Ugandans,” Edemachu said.
At this year’s games extravaganza, the KCCA team will participate in three disciplines; football, netball and tug of war.
Edemachu asked the team to be disciplined and relate well with other participating countries.
“The games are part of the awareness on regional integration, and promote social cohesion within the region,” Edemachu said.
Kenya last hosted the games in Kisumu in 2016. However, the games failed to take off in 2017 and 2018 due to what the organizers termed as unavoidable circumstances.
The annual games resumed in 2019 hosted by Kampala where Kenya emerged overall winners. But due to Covid19 pandemic, the games were off the calendar for the last two years.
EALASCA was formed in 2008 with keen interest on promoting sports and culture in all the local authorities within the East African community.
The event brings together workers of local authorities and county governments.
