KCCA ED HAILS BUGANDA KINGDOM FOR SUPPORTING CITY DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS

PUBLISHED — 18th, November 2025

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki has applauded the Buganda Kingdom for its continued partnership in strengthening service delivery and promoting community wellbeing across the city.

She made the remarks on Tuesday during the Luwalo Lwaffe fundraising event at Bulange Gardens in Mengo, an initiative that mobilises community support for the Kingdom’s social development programmes. KCCA contributed UGX 5 million to the cause.

KCCA’s offices are in Mituba IV (Kampala Central Division), which falls within Kyaddondo County, one of Buganda’s traditional administrative units. This unique positioning has created a strategic linkage that has fostered close collaboration between KCCA and the Kingdom in driving urban transformation.

Buzeki commended the Kingdom for championing HIV/AIDS prevention, responsible waste management, and environmental protection, noting that these priorities directly reinforce the Authority’s efforts to create a cleaner and healthier city.

“Improper waste disposal continues to block our drainage channels, worsening flooding in several parts of Kampala,” she said. “We appreciate the Kingdom’s leadership in promoting better community practices that protect the environment and improve the quality of life for our people.”

She revealed that KCCA, in partnership with Kingdom officials, has intensified community clean-up drives, which have received consistent support from local leaders. She encouraged continued cooperation to ensure Kampala remains clean, safe, and sustainable.

Buzeki reaffirmed KCCA’s commitment to improving mobility and reducing congestion in the city. She announced that several major junctions and linkages around Bulange will be upgraded under ongoing infrastructure plans. Drainage improvements, she noted, remain central to KCCA’s engineering works to reduce flooding.

Highlighting progress in Kampala Central Division, she referenced ongoing construction works on Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, Kira Road, and 5th, 6th, and 7th Streets, among others all part of KCCA’s broader strategy to modernise the city’s road network and enhance transport efficiency.

The Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Hajjat Minsa Kabanda also urged the public to embrace government programmes especially the Parish Development Model (PDM) to boost household incomes and enhance economic resilience. She emphasized that KCCA’s collaboration with the Kingdom remains pivotal in mobilising communities for these initiatives.

The event was presided over by Cotilda Nakate Kikomeko, the Buganda Kingdom Minister for Social Services, representing the Katikkiro. She praised KCCA’s continued collaboration in advancing health, education, and community empowerment.

Kikomeko also urged parents to safeguard children during school holidays, warning that many risks such as early marriage and teenage pregnancy occur when children are out of school. She noted that close supervision is key to reducing primary school dropout rates.

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago commended the Kingdom and the Kabaka for their long-standing contribution to public health initiatives and emphasised the importance of cooperation between cultural institutions and the central government in delivering services to citizens.

The ceremony underscored the deep-rooted relationship between KCCA and Buganda Kingdom one that continues to drive progress in sanitation, infrastructure development, and community upliftment across Kampala.
