Tatarian dogwood is native from Northern Russia to Korea. Though this species may scorch in hot climates, it has some tolerance for drought. prefers evenly moist, well-drained soils in full sun, but is adaptable to many conditions, including wet soils, dry soils, poor soils, compacted soils, and soils of various pH. In Kampala, Tatarian dogwood can be found along Kyadondo road among other places.

+ Description

Tatarian dogwood is a multi-stemmed, spreading, compact and deciduous shrub reaching 1.5 2m tall.

BARK: brilliant red.

LEAVES: medium to dark green with creamy white margins, opposite, elliptical, with an acute tip, and with the major leaf veins parallel to the curving leaf margins.

FLOWERS: miniature cream flowers are arranged into flat-topped inflorescences of about 2" in diameter.

FRUITS: creamy white, sometimes tinged with blue.

+ Uses

Agroforestry: useful for stabilizing banks and slopes, can be planted as an informal hedge, erosion control.

An ornamental tree.
