The Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, hosted the annual Iftar Dinner at the KCCA Gardens on Friday, bringing together city leaders, religious figures, and community members in a spirit of unity and development. Iftar is an evening meal that marks the end of daily fasting in Ramadan.

The event was graced by the Supreme Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Muhammad Galabuzi, who commended KCCA for its leadership in managing the city. He urged the Authority to enhance public sensitization on the city’s physical plan, streamline the process of plan approvals, and provide clear guidance on proper infrastructure development.

Lukwago re-affirmed his commitment to working closely with the Executive Director and KCCA leadership to improve service delivery in Kampala. He emphasized the need for unity among staff and urged them to dedicate their efforts to the city’s transformation.

KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki highlighted key areas of focus for the authority, including waste management, infrastructure improvement, and community engagement. She called upon residents to embrace proper sanitation practices, in line with both Islamic teachings and city regulations.

“Islam promotes cleanliness, and we urge you to support us in keeping the city clean by sorting, recycling, and properly disposing of waste. Let’s work together to ensure a cleaner Kampala,” Buzeki stated.

Addressing the state of city roads, Buzeki acknowledged inconvenience caused by infrastructure projects and assured residents that efforts are underway to eliminate potholes and enhance the road network. She also underscored the authority’s commitment to improving health, education, and sanitation services in the city.

Speaker of the KCCA Council, Zahara Luyirika, also addressed the gathering, reiterating the council’s support for initiatives aimed at uplifting the livelihoods of city dwellers.

The evening concluded with a feast at 7:00 PM, where guests shared a meal and engaged in discussions on fostering development and inclusivity in Kampala.
