KATIKIRO MAYIGA COMMENDS KCCA FOR WORKING ON LUBIRI RING ROAD

The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has commended the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka for redeveloping Lubiri Ring Road.

The 3.5km road that goes around the perimeter wall of the Buganda Kabaka’s Palace, is a historical road in Kampala and Buganda Kingdom.

With funding from the government of Uganda, KCCA embarked on the reconstruction of this road, which will change the whole look of the neighborhood.

“I want to thank you for working on Lubiri Ring Road. I'm so excited about it,” Mayiga said.

Katikiro said this on Friday at his office in Bulange Mengo where he hosted Kisaka who had visited him to deliver KCCA’s support towards the Kabaka Birthday Run.

For the first time Lubiri Ring Road in Rubaga division is to have dedicated bicycle lanes as one way of improving safety for road users. The road will also have walkways, security rights, road signs, drainage and trees to be planted along the road.

“I studied with Dorothy Kisaka for 4 years, we were together at LDC. She has been committed all her life and if she brings that level of commitment to KCCA she will succeed,” Mayiga said.

Mayiga also asked KCCA to work on Nabunya which is along the Kabaka’s lake in Ndeba.

“The Kabaka's lake is authentic and has heritage but some people are somehow misusing it. There is a road that is along that lake which you should look into and upgrade,” Mayiga said.

He appreciated Kisaka for being a hardworking leader who is dedicated to transforming Kampala.

“Leading the city is not easy. It is a daunting task and it requires resources, which are not enough. Kampala is our face but I know my sister Kisaka will manage,” Mayiga said.

He also commented on the KCCA logo which he said needs to be revised to make a more identifiable and historical symbol.

“The logo of Kampala is not the Impala which gave us the name Kampala. If it’s not the Impala let it be the Masiro, It's the most original and authentic.  But the Kampala city hall tower is not authentic, it is not original,” Mayiga said.

He appreciated KCCA’s involvement and support in the Kabaka's Birthday Run that is scheduled for Jul 3, 2022.

In her remarks, Kisaka thanked the Katikiro and Buganda Kingdom for supporting development initiatives in the city.

KCCA supported the Kabaka Run event with UGX shs5m and will have a team of cleaners who will clean up the area where the event will take place.

“We are happy to associate with Buganda Kingdom in this Kabaka run,” Kisaka said.

She revealed that KCCA is championing the SMART CITY initiative which aims at improving the outlook of the city, infrastructure, technology and the people.

“We have a slogan Smart City; it has not happened everywhere but I’m happy here everything is already smart. Your office is smart, even the other building where the TV station is, is also smart. That is what we want to see everywhere in the city,” Kisaka said,

She informed Katikiro that there are discussions going on with the policy makers regarding the KCCA logo.

“We are thinking about the symbol of the city and more especially the Impala. Our council and everyone is involved in this,” Kisaka said.

She promised that KCCA will work on Nabunya road in order to improve the Kabaka’s lake surroundings.
