The prime minister, Robinah Nabbanja, on Wednesday inspected several ongoing road construction projects in Kampala and the metropolitan area and directed engineers and contractors to promptly address defects identified on some sections.

Nabbanja toured the projects alongside the state minister for works, Musa Ecweru, and the deputy head of public service in charge of service delivery, Jane Kyarisiima Mwesiga, together with technical officials.

The team visited several road projects being implemented by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), across the city. Roads inspected included Port Bell Road, Spring Road, 5th Street, 6th Street, 7th Street, 8th Street, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, Kyebando Ring Road and Sentema Road.

During the inspection, Nabbanja emphasized the need for close supervision of contractors to ensure that all works meet the required standards and deliver value for public investment.

At Kyebando Ring Road, the prime minister directed contractors and engineers to urgently address a protruding manhole identified on the road to improve safety for road users. She asked that the issue be rectified within two days.

In Lubya village in Rubaga Division, Nabbanja also called for improvements to the drainage system after observing stormwater affecting nearby homes.

She directed engineers from the Ministry of Works and Transport to work with KCCA to review the issues identified during the inspection and implement corrective measures.

Ecweru said engineers from the ministry will continue working with KCCA to monitor road construction projects in the city to ensure quality work and value for money.

Kyarisiima said public officials must closely supervise government-funded projects to ensure effective service delivery.

The Executive Director of KCCA, Sharifah Buzeki, said the authority will work with contractors and technical teams to ensure that the issues identified during the inspection are addressed promptly.

The road projects are part of government efforts to improve mobility and upgrade infrastructure in Kampala.
